Actor Eric Mabius, best known for his role on the television series Ugly Betty, was arrested in Florida Thursday (February 20) morning in relation to an alleged bar fight with a woman, the New York Post reports.

Mabius, 53, was charged with battery and resisting arrest, both misdemeanors, after being detained by Nassau County Sheriff's Department deputies at around 2:13 a.m. and booked into the Nassau County Jail and Detention Center at 5:45 a.m. The actor was reportedly with a female companion who was asked to leave the bar "several times" by the bartender, as well as "a few patrons," after she was "continuously being disrespectful," an arrest report obtained by the New York Post states.

The female companion allegedly began spitting on people before turning to the victim "as if she was goin to spit on her," at which point the woman told Mabius' companion that she needed to leave. The companion then began pushing the victim, at which point Mabius allegedly got involved and reportedly knocked both women to the ground, according to the arrest report.

The incident allegedly "only took a few seconds" and the victim told police that “while she was on the ground Eric got on top of her and was pulling her hair ripping a handful of her hair from her scalp," which led to "multiple people at the bar" attempting to pull Mabius and his companion off of her, according to the written statement.

An eyewitness who claimed to be Mabius' friend told police that “Eric, slung both girls to the ground and so he grabbed Eric off of the girls and the cops where [sic] arriving on scene.”

Police said that the witness got "spit on" but did not want to press charges. Mabius was reportedly trying to help his friend stand when they arrived at the bar and described the woman as being "extremely intoxicated" and "kept trying to yell at everyone in the bar" when deputies arrived at the scene.

Police said the female companion “laid on the ground and refused to listen and or speak" when officers made contact with her, which forced them to physically pick her up and carry her outside.

“Once outside [the woman] continued to resist and was ultimately placed under arrest for resisting,” the report added.

Mabius was reported to have "became more belligerent" outside the bar and was "not following simple commands to just sit on the bench," at one point being incapable of trying "to stand up and walk behind" the arresting officer" as he "was trying to finish investigating the incident."

“Several deputies had to escort [Mabius] back to the bench and placed him under arrest for resisting without violence," the report states.
