Former Penn State pass rusher Abdul Carter, who is projected to potentially be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, is considering undergoing surgery on his right foot to deal with a stress reaction after undergoing tests, his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, confirmed to ESPN's Adam Schefter on Wednesday (February 26).
"There are mixed opinions on whether he needs surgery, and we will figure that out in the near future," Rosenhaus told Schefter at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.
Carter could reportedly undergo preemptive surgery in which he would have a screw inserted in his right foot, which would prohibit him from working out or running for about eight weeks, or bypass the surgery and conduct his Pro Day at Penn State on March 28, according to Rosenhaus.
Carter, his family, Rosenhaus and fellow agent Robert Bailey spent Wednesday consulting with doctors in relation to the injury and the pass rusher is expected to make a decision this week.
"Either way, worst-case scenario, we don't expect this to impact where he is drafted," Rosenhaus said via ESPN. "After visiting with teams this week, I believe he's going to be the No. 1 overall pick."
Carter was already expected to be limited during the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine this week due to a shoulder injury he suffered during the Nittany Lions' College Football Playoff quarterfinals win against Boise State in December. The former Penn State standout currently ranks as the No. 2 overall prospect on ESPN draft guru Mel Kiper Jr.'s latest Big Board, No. 2 in ESPN draft analyst Jordan Reid's latest rankings and No. 1 overall in draft analyst Matt Miller's latest rankings.
