Authorities in Pennsylvania are trying to track down a suspect who released bedbugs in a Walmart in Edinboro, which is in the northwest corner of the state, near Lake Erie. A manager at the store discovered a pill bottle containing live bedbugs hidden inside the sleeve of a boy's jacket that was for sale. There were also reports that the tiny insects were seen crawling around the men's changing room earlier in the day.
The manager called the police and the store cordoned off the area where the bedbugs were discovered. Later that day, employees found another pill bottle, but the bedbugs inside were dead.
"We take this seriously and are looking into this," a Walmart spokesperson told CNN. "We are fully cooperating with law enforcement on their investigation."
Walmart hired a third-party company to come in and inspect the store to ensure that the bedbugs do not spread to another area.
While bedbugs do not spread disease, they can leave bite marks, which can cause an allergic reaction in some people.
