According to WoodTV 8 , a huge pileup happened on I-196 M-6 due to the extreme weather. Eastbound M-6 at US-131 and westbound at Broadmoor Avenue are closed. The highway is expected to be shut down for several hours as crews work to clear the scene. The Dutton Fire Department said around 10 a.m. at least 24 vehicles, including a Michigan State Police cruiser, were involved in the pileup and at least four people were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Ottawa County said around 9:30 a.m., at least 15 vehicles were involved in a pileup on I-196. It's unclear if there are any injuries. Eastbound I-196 at Byron Road near Zeeland are now open after clearing the accident. A State of Emergency has been declared in Michigan due to the dangerously cold temps.
