FBI Urges Everyone To Reboot Routers

The FBI is urging everyone to reboot their routers to stop Russia-linked malware.  A sophisticated malware system linked to Russia has apparently infected hundreds of thousands of internet routers. The malware is reportedly able to block web traffic, collect information that passes through home and office routers and disable the devices entirely.  The FBI says simply turning the router off and then back on will temporarily disrupt the malware if it is there.

Investigators found that devices from manufacturers including Linksys, MikroTik, Netgear and TP-Link have been affected.  However, the Justice Department has seized the web domain which is a critical part of the malware and now any attempts by the malware to reinfect a compromised router will be bounced to an FBI server.  This will apparently help identify victim devices and will stop hackers from stealing personal information.
