Jeff Titus was a suspect early on in the murders of two hunters in the Fulton State Game area in 1990. They were found very close to his property. But Titus had an alibi. He was hunting with buddies miles away. He couldn't have killed Doug Estes and Jim Bennett.
There were no witnesses, but folks around the area in Kalamazoo county said he had a reputation for confronting people on his land.
In any cases, he wasn't charged until 11 years had passed. By that time witnesses had come and come, the prosecutors never talked to the original detectives, and things just didn't seem to add up.
Now the Innocence Clinic in Kalamazoo has taken on his case. They have asked for a new trial.
