James Garner has died at his home in Hollywood.  He was 86 years old.  His first major starring role was as "Maverick", a TV western.  

Later he starred as a private detective in "The Rockford Files".

He also made more than 50 movies.  Among his best known was "The Notebook".

Garner suffered a major stroke last year that left him in a wheel chair.  He was also said to be battling depression.
