Pennzoil partnered with Nintendo to create a real life Mario Kart.
The whole set-up is at Austin, Texas' South By Southwest festival. Basically, what they did was get go-karts with sensors, Go Pro cameras, and wireless routers.
When you hit items on the track that would make your kart go faster on the game (mushrooms and such), the sensor picks it up and your kart gets more power. You lose power when you hit the negative items (turtle shells).
Unfortunately, a plan to dramatically loosen the steering when you hit a banana peel was killed.
